Ryan Garko had 5 hits and 3 RBI and Pedro Martinez carried a no-hitter into
the 7th inning at the ballpark as the Langley Farm Team belted the Detroit
Iron Gloves by the count of 12 to 1.
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Garko. He slapped a base-hit in the 2nd inning, stroked a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, banged out a single bringing in a run in the
5th inning, slapped a base-hit in the 7th inning and smashed a two-run homer
(his 4th of the season) in the 8th inning. Langley had 14 hits overall,
while Detroit had 2.
The victory went to Martinez(5-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 1 run. The
right-handed Martinez had his no-hit bid broken up by Chris Shelton who
singled with two outs in the 7th inning. The losing pitcher was Brandon
Claussen(1-6). He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 4
innings.
'Everything felt great' Martinez said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody today.'
